Welcome to my journal! As a chartered accountant turned jewellery designer, the original black and white me is now a lovely tone of grey, with a dash of pink! Hope you enjoy reading the Black and White (Business), the Grey (the aim for a balanced life) and my dash of pink (creativity, meaning and inspiration of my brand).
It's time to bring back some serenity and balance to our lives after the lockdown and anxiety of Covid 19 pandemic. Our ancestors believed that balances promotes serenity, here is how I plan to do just that.
I wrote this blog post shortly after returning home to live in Ireland in 2014. It still reasonates with me five years later. Travelling and living away for so long shaped me and made me very proud to of my Irishness. On the 100th year anniversary of the first Dáil (Paraliment), and indeed even since I left school in 2001, Ireland has developed in one of the most progressive countries in the world.
And so its almost Valentine's Day and it's Chinese New Year at the weekend. It's funny how these occasions fall so close together every year as love and indeed China is really how Liwu Jewellery began.
So because I am obsessed with balance, I wanted to find a symbol to represent its importance to me and for it to represent my intention as a daily reminder to me and the universe. I found the Five-fold symbol, which is beautiful geometry and works wonderful as jewellery. The five-fold symbol has five interlocking circles, the fifth one is the centre circle and is created when the other four come together.
It was one of those magical moments in life that I’ll never forget. We had sandy hair and toes, glowing tanned faces from the week of sunshine and big smiles all round. The funny thing is our phones and therefore our cameras were dead. The picture in my head of this magical swim is all I have as a reminder. The heatwave in Ireland 2018, a camper van and endless memories of the road less travelled....
There are many types of Dads out there and they all mean something special to us. The two Dads I know the best are my own Dad and my husband. Ahead of Father's Day 2018, I write about what these Dads mean to me and my girls.
Last weekend, I took a day off from being the owner of a business and being a mum. I went to Well fest – Ireland’s largest health, fitness and wellness festival. It was an all-round good day of self-care – fitness, contemplation and laughter. Here is some of the things I learnt from my day.
This week the All Ireland Ploughing Championships are on! The largest event held in rural Ireland and indeed one of the largest outdoor events in Europe. It has me reflecting on why I live in rural Ireland.
For a long time, achieving balance in my life has been a goal for me. I even designed a necklace to represent it. Immediately, I was drawn to the Five Fold symbol and its representation of balance. A universal symbol, ancient Celtic druids believed that balance promoted serenity.
I wanted to share some of the personal challenges I faced when I started Liwu Jewellery and sometimes still do. I hope my tips on how to overcome them help all you budding entrepreneurs.
For Liwu Jewellery, the UK market has been a focus for the past year, with one brick and mortar store in London and three online UK based ecommerce stockists. However, in light of Brexit, I am giving this some careful consideration.
